Ohio police make inocent man walk home in his pajamas

A 62-year-old man named James Williams was arrested with no reason by the police in April in Hamilton County, Ohio. He was just outside his house getting a document that was in this pickup truck when the police came and forced him to lay down on the ground. Then he was taken to a gas station in the area where a man had stolen gasoline. Williams had to stay in the police car for at least 20 minutes waiting. He then claimed that he has been arrested by a mistake because the police obviously thought he was the man that crashed a car nearby where he lived.
When Williams got released, he had to walk all the way home in the outfit that he ha don when they arrested him; his polar bear pajamas.

He is suing the departments and the officers, who arrested him with no reason and humiliated him by making him go home in his pajamas, for $ 125 000.

Police officer Rob Ward wrote on his Facebook status that he ”can't wait to bash some long haired hippys up @ the G20” at the first day of the City of London protest.
Twenty minutes later another Facebook user posted a reply that said: "Dats bad but good in da same way lol [laugh out loud]."
He later removed this status message from his Facebook profile.
Ward received a written warning but has not yet been suspended.
There were more than 80 complaints sent to The IPCC from people who said they were assaulted or witnessed an assault by police during the G20 protests, and more than 50 complaints about police tactics. Ian Tomlinson, a newspaper vendor, died after he was pushed over by a policeman during the demonstrations on 1 April.

This policeman has been suspended and is suspected for manslaughter in connection with the death.
Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman Chris Huhne said: "There is clearly a worry about the canteen culture of some parts of the Met, which this Facebook posting feeds."

Forgotten police dog died after 13 hours in a car

A 5-year-old K-9 unit police dog named Bandit was left in a police sport utility vehicle and died after 13 hours.
The police car belong to Sgt. Tom Lovejoy and it was parked outside his house when this happened. Bandit lived with Lovejoy and was trained to protect officers and to sniff out explosives. The temperature was 109 degrees that day, and about 140 degrees inside the vehicle, and the dog obviously died of the extreme heat. Dogs can’t sweat, they only cool by panting. Lovejoy is very upset about the whole situation, but he can still face department punishment.
In March, a Phoenix police dog was left in a department vehicle and died. Police have finished an investigation but would not comment because the case remains under final review.

A 12-year-old autistic boy got tased for making trouble at school

A 12-year-old autistic boy was shot with a police stun gun outside Hawthorne middle school. It all started when the boy, that’s also an African American, didn’t want to line up for his photograph during a photo day at school. He started running around the school with a school’s security guard chasing him and trying to rush and detain him. Police lieutenant Michael Ishii said that the boy assaulted a security guard and kicked a police officer. The school called the boy’s family, but when his sister wanted to interrupt she was pushed back by the police, though they claimed that she spoke to him and couldn’t calm him down, so they decided to shoot him with a 50 000 volt Taser. "To watch my brother shaking on the ground, it was very traumatic," the sister said. "He wasn't the same for days afterward." The boy urinated himself and was immediately taken to a medical center to have two electrode darts removed from his back. The issue of using Tasers on children has become controversial in recent years and more research is needed to determine the health effects of shocking small children, still the Hawthorne police chose to use it on the autistic boy. The attorney said that if the boy successfully completes a counseling program, a criminal case will not be filed against him.

Ohio Federal agent shoots unarmed women in the neck

A tearful Sara Vandeneynde said yesterday that she narrowly escaped death after being shot in the neck by a U.S. deputy marshal, who had been hit by a car driven by a wanted man.
Deputy Marshal Rodney Hartzell stopped a vehicle driven by Terry Moll, 33, of 18 City Park Ave., Apt. 45, at East Broadway and Starr Avenue about 6 p.m. Wednesday and ordered him out of the car at gunpoint, authorities said.
Moll fled and struck Mr. Hartzell with his car. Ms. Vandeneynde was in the passenger's seat.
The federal officer then fired a shot through the driver's side window, striking Ms. Vandeneynde in the neck, authorities said.
"I felt like I wasn't going to make it," Ms. Vandeneynde, 22, said from her hospital bed at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where she remained in fair condition last night.

12 year old boy arrested after deliberately "breaking wind" in school class

These officers should have gotten their MBA online instead of becoming cops.

A 12-year-old student from Florida was arrested November 4 for breaking wind during class and disturbing his classmates by shutting off their computers at Stuar's Spectrum Jr./Sr. High School.
The police called this a "deliberately passed gas to disrupt the class" and "disruption of a school function"

16 year old Cheerleader arrested for not returning uniform

-A New Lebanon High School student was arrested, arraigned and sent to the county jail March 24 because her cheerleading coach alleged she stole her uniform.

The Sheriff’s Office did not identify the suspect, but her attorney, Terence Kindlon, confirmed yesterday that 16-year-old Amber King of Stephentown was charged with petit larceny.

“I’ve been practicing law for over 35 years now, and I have to say without hesitation this is the most absurd criminal prosecution I’ve ever seen,” said Mr. Kindlon from his Albany office.

Columbia County Deputy Sheriff Chad Shufelt, the resident deputy for this area, charged Amber March 24 at 8:35 a.m. According to a Sheriff’s Office report, Amber was a member of the cheerleading team and “refused to return her uniform when she was no longer affiliated with the team to the coach who personally owned it.”

The Black family owns the uniforms and let cheerleaders use them, said New Lebanon Superintendent Karen McGraw.Penny Black, cheerleading coach, could not be reached for comment. She is the wife of county Emergency Management Director William Black.

The Sheriff’s Office said the school attempted to have the uniform returned, but Amber allegedly refused to comply with the request.

Ms. McGraw confirmed the Blacks, not the school district, contacted police.

Deputy Shufelt met with Amber and her mother before a criminal complaint was signed in an effort to reconcile the situation, according to the Sheriff’s Office, but Amber “repeatedly refused to return the uniform.

“The owner then requested criminal charges be filed and after consulting with the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office, the defendant was charged with petit larceny,” said the Sheriff’s Office report.
Amber was asked to turn herself in and be issued an appearance ticket, according to the report, but she refused that request.

Deputy Shufelt got a warrant for her arrest and Amber was picked up at her job here.

She was arraigned in New Lebanon Town Court before Justice Jack Nevers without a parent or attorney present, said Mr. Kindlon.

Mr. Kindlon said that was permissible since Amber is 16.

The District Attorney’s Office recommended $1,500 cash bail, said the Sheriff’s Office, but Justice Nevers sent Amber to the Columbia County Jail in Greenport in lieu of $1,000 and ordered her to return to court April 5.

A call to the District Attorney’s Office was not returned before press time.

But Mr. Kindlon was shocked to learn of what Amber went through.

“I’m disgusted,” he said. “She’s a kid. It’s a cheerleading outfit.”

Mr. Kindlon said if the owner of the uniform really wanted to take action, small claims court would be the appropriate place. He hopes to rearrange his schedule in order to appear with his client in Town Court Thursday. “The people prosecuting this case should be ashamed of themselves,” said Mr. Kindlon. “It’s appalling.”

He hopes the case is thrown out as soon as possible.

In the meantime, Mr. Kindlon said Amber is back at school.

“She’s a kid,” he said. “One-thousand dollars bail? What do they think, she’s a risk to the community? It’s an outrage.”

Joe Meyerson, chairman of the New Lebanon Democratic Party, called a reporter to express anger over the situation, taking specific aim at Justice Nevers, a Republican.

“This is incompetence,” said Mr. Meyerson last week. “You have judges to protect people from the errors of sheriffs, school administrators and the wives of emergency coordinators who claim they own uniforms.”

Arresting a cheerleader for stealing her uniform, he argued, is like arresting a baseball player for stealing his athletic supporter.

As for the school district, Ms. McGraw said New Lebanon would adopt a formal protocol for the way donations, including uniforms, are accepted.

The matter was actually on her to-do list when she became superintendent recently.
“We knew it was a place where we could have problems,” said Ms. McGraw. Read more!
