As a police officer, I find this totally unacceptable and would support disciplinary action against the whole crew. This is the kind of thing that makes the rest of us look bad. Personally I would support firing all of them.
Sheriff said it was done "by the book". What book was HE going by????If she was a "suicide" threat, removing clothing is done so they don't hang themselves, and medical help is IMMEDIATELY called for, not 6 hrs later. I am a retired Correction Captain. I have also been a police officer. Unless the woman was a threat to herself there was no reason to strip her. Even then she should have been given something to cover herself, generally a paper gown. To leave a prisoner in a cell naked for even six minutes is totally uncalled for.

Police officers have one hell of a thankless job. But there can be no excuse for this type of treatment of a fellow human being. If there was a legitimate concern that she would harm herself, then your remove everything that could be used to inflict self harm. Even then she should have been provided with some covering to preserve human dignity.

I'd hate to have you on my jury. You convict these officers based on one side of the story. I've been in that exact situation as an officer. A prisoner refused to change over into jail clothing. Our only female officer attempted to help the prisoner in changing and got her finger bitten and nearly chewed off. Numerous male officers responded to the cell to restain the prisoner. What was shown was not a strip search, no one was searched, therefore no policy was violated. As for the being left naked for 6 hours, more questions need to be answered. Likely the jail clothing was left in the cell for her to dress herself rather than force the issue thereby possibly causing injury to some one. Commonly the inmate refuses to get dressed. WE DON'T KNOW THE WHOLE STORY.

im writing on here as i was arrested on saturday nite i was not drunk but was told i was paraletic i called to log a complaint against the police as several on there officers battered my friend who now has a face like a football an remarkably they cannot see there officers hitting him?? they then arrested me called me names an i was then treated to abuse from the 2 male officers who arrested me my arms are swollen an bruised from were they dragged me an wen i got to there police staation i was then taken to the cell after being tolkd they would only remove my footwear an leggins 3 female officers then came in without warning stripped me naked then laughed on their exit as i was crying as what they done is degrading an also the door was wide open wen they done this so others could see into the cell an i also asked to see the doctor and a solicitor this never happened i called on the buzzer to ask how long i was told to calm down an soon they would be here after five and a half hours no one came my buzzer was turned off on a number of occasions for over an hour

This is just another example of why I almost never go to the police for help. I have been on this planet for 40+ yrs and I can say that the police that you see depicted in movies, the Morgan Freeman in Seven cop with a brain, must be a hollywood invention. All of my personal experience with cops has left me convinced that the police force has become a safe haven for moronic, racist, jock bullies who love to play god because they are given an arsonal and the right to use it. Do I have to remind anyone of the two cops in Milwaukee who gave that young boy back to Jeffrey Dahmer and then made homosexual jokes about it over the police radio, no doubt as the kid was being strangled and dismembered? Cops love to fall back on the excuse that their job is hard, and no one is contesting that, but ignorance and cruelty are not valid responses no matter how difficult your job may be. well the point i'm trying to make is that if they were doing this for "KICKS" then i bet they'd be pretty bored of seeing naked women in prison by now. It is a normal protocol in any Psych department to remove all clothing to make sure no PINS, PENS, STRINGS, RAZORS or any possible thing that can be used to hurt themselves or other is removed/taken away from the person in question.
The question here is not why they left her naked or why they took her cloths off. The question to ask here is "What made them suspect that she was possibly going to hurt herself (commit suicide) or hurt someone else?" That basically comes down to the judgment of the officer in-charge.
I highly doubt that their intentions were to "Rape" her or to "humiliate" her etc. ON CAMERA in the presence of AT LEAST TWO OTHER FEMALE POLICE OFFICERS. You know, as a foreigner in this country, i get stopped at the airport every single time and i expect a strip search and i get a little uncomfortable when my mom, sister or girlfriend have to get on a plane. I think i would probably be more upset than the husband in this case but at the same time, i WILL HAVE TO understand that they did it to ONE person to protect THOUSANDS. For the very reason that i do not want any of my family members to be in such a situation, i prefer to DRIVE when i can. I understand their concerns, anyone can do anything and give everyone a bad name. Unfortunately, the police has to put up with a lot of "actual bad people" and it just so happens that one good person ends up the same treatment.
Now if this woman actually did show signs of possibly committing suicide but officers would have ignored the situation then it would be a whole new story... but guess what, the blame would still be on the police department....
